AUKUS, Post Brexit & China

So three countries have formed the military alliance as of last night. AUKUS: Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Announced by Boris Johnson (UK), Joe Biden (USA) and Scott Morrison (Australia). 

So let me get this straight. Three countries formed a defence and security pact. Announced by American, Australian and British governments so that the UK and the US can assist Australia by giving them a nuclear submarines. 

Well here is my take. 

My take

I knew that the UK in post Brexit era will be close to the United States and Commonwealth countries like Australia. Two of the Five Eyes countries (with New Zealand & Canada) but that never crossed my mind. AUKUS (Australia, UK & US). I thought it would be an announcement of CANZUK.

CANZUK (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK) - post Brexit Anglosphere alliance to be alternative than the European Union 🇪🇺(I still think it’s a dumb idea). Oh boy, 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇦🇺🙄🤦

I even wrote previous blogs stating why Britain is move closer away from Europe and wanting to be in CPTPP (trade of 11 Asia Pacific countries) despite the UK is not in the Asia Pacific region  geographically. mrlimitless95.blogspot.com mrlimitless95.blogspot.com mrlimitless95.blogspot.com I said before that geography matters and that CANZUK is no better alternative than the EU27. That’s why the UK is moving away from European standards to any country standards like American standards. See the announcement of the formation of AUKUS, that is a clear example why the relationship between the UK and the EU will not be the same again despite they are allies and partners. It’s not the same when the UK was the EU member state. 

No wonder Brexiteers have been dreaming about Britain’s past & being nostalgic about the empire (British empire). At least, the UK won’t leave NATO any time soon & that it wouldn’t have to be part of the European Army (if that were to happen anytime in the future). 

It’s all good except Australia will have nuclear submarines despite not having nuclear weapons. ☢️ I get why Australia’s relationships between UK and USA are close allies since I know they are allies and friends but for the Land Down Under to have nuclear submarines? I don’t know about you but it is all for defence & national security reason. 

Plus France is not happy with it. Australia scrapping the defence deal with the French. 

And China reacted, calling it “Cold War mentality). Knowing there is no democracy in authoritarian China. & New Zealand & Canada is not in AUKUS defence pact. Even Jacinda Ardern (Prime Minister of New Zealand) does not want any part of it. So yeah, mixed feelings about it. 

Finally in my opinion, it is mixture of good and bad. 

The announcement of defence pact (alliance between UK, US & Australia) AUKUS to counter the influence of China in Indio Pacific region, although I do recongise that the Chinese is authoritarian menace, at the same thing, last thing we need is confrontation between the West & China or even Cold War with China & Russia despite I cannot stand both Xi Jingping & Vladimir Putin and what I see on the news media is nothing but scaremongering & provocation. In fact, why NATO countries like the likes of USA, UK, France & Germany are doing in the Indio Pacific region? Especially in the South China Sea? 

You know I am saying from anti war/anti intervention point of view. So I hope three nations know what are they doing so that it does not turn into a direct confrontation with the Chinese in warfare.
