Black History Month in the US

This month, it is annually Black History Month in the US.

Before I go any further, I want to clear up any confusion about Black History Month & the differences between British one and American one.

If you reckon that Black History Month is just American thing, I afraid that you are wrong because it is also celebrated in the United Kingdom. It is not only America who celebrates Black History Month. Plus it is held annually in February in America. While here in the UK, it’s October.

I hope that clears up any confusion. πŸ™‚πŸ˜€πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

In fact 4 months ago, I wrote a blog post about Black History Month in the UK. https://mrlimitless95.blogspot.com/2021/10/black-history-month-in-uk.html

So about the Black History Month in the US, is an annual observance. Highlighting the importance of why it has to be observed every year annually. To combat racism and promoting the excellence and achievements of any black person. Example: Barack Obama - First Black US President & particularly historical figures like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. There are lots of famous names that we know of & do not know of (& yet to be known).

In October 2021 blog post for the British Black History Month, I talked about black English football player Marcus Rashford who plays for Manchester United & England football team. https://mrlimitless95.blogspot.com/2021/10/black-history-month-in-uk.html

So for the American Black History Month (African American History Month), I’ll talk about Chadwick Boseman. The actor who sadly passed away in 28th August 2020.

Chadwick Boseman was the actor who played character roles in films.

Example:

Singer James Brown (the godfather of soul) in 2014 movie “Get on Up”.

Baseball player Jackie Robinson in the 2013 movie “42”

US Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 2017 film “Marshall”.

& yes, the 2018 film “Black Panther” when Boseman played the ironic superhero Black Panther/ T’Challa & that he achieved international fame for it. Wakanda Forever.

I remembered in 2018 when I first seen the film Black Panther in Cinema and I was very happy to see the movie about fictional character who is a black superhero & defending Wakanda as the king of the fictional African nation. I would love to watch the film again and again. Because that film had indeed inspired everybody particularly the blacks & it is another example of black empowerment.

It is another reason why Black History Month must be acknowledged.

Finally, April 2021 last year I talked about racism in my previous blog post and that we must keep on fighting racism and all its forms (including systemic racism). Black History Month is one of the ways to fight racism and saying no to racism. mrlimitless95.blogspot.com Especially that I do speak it from my experience as I only experienced racism once.

If you want to know more about Black History Month in the United States, here are the sources for more information. πŸ™‚πŸ˜€

And finally, I talked about Juneteenth when it became a US federal holiday in June 2021. The holiday that will be celebrated every year on June 19th

And that is why we should continue to promote annual observance like Black History Month. Whether is in the UK, the US or any part of the world.

Recently the police officers in New Jersey, USA that they arrested a black teenager in the shopping centre (shopping mall) which had sparked a outcry & controversy. In my opinion, I am tired of being shocked every time when things goes horribly wrong in the US. It’s nearly two years since the death of George Floyd & still, blacks are being racially profiled. In the lyrics of Tupac song “Changes”. I see no changes.

So let’s all continue to stand firm by saying no to racism & all forms of racism. That is all I can say about it on this topic in this month in February for the US Black History Month.
